8 Best Diesel Weed Strains

Blog

Marijuana users prefer different cannabis strains for various reasons. One such reason is the smell or taste of marijuana. When considering the smell and taste, you also have many options. Some are fruity, skunky, and diesel-like. Whatever you choose depends on your preference.

In this post, we will focus on the diesel strains. We will list your best options when looking for diesel weed strains. So, let’s dive in without taking more time.

What Terpene Smells Like Diesel?

Terpenes define the smell and taste of marijuana. These chemicals vary, and their concentrations will also tell how aromatic marijuana can smell.

So, what terpenes cause a diesel smell? The truth is that not a single terpene produces the gassy scent typical of diesel weed strains. It is a perfect combination of various terpenes. Diesel cannabis has high concentrations of myrcene, limonene, beta-caryophyllene, and pinene. They may have other chemical compounds, but these are the main contributors to the diesel-like smell in most types of diesel strains.

Interestingly, the best diesel strains are also the most potent cannabis. They have high THC levels, usually soaring above 20%. And most diesel strains tend to be Sativa and Sativa-leaning hybrids, but some are Indica diesel weed strains.

When choosing your best-smelling weed strains, you can opt for diesel Indica or Sativa strains. You will always get your preferred flower for the desired effects.

Best diesel strains

Many marijuana strains can be classified as diesel strains. However, all of them have the same concentration level. So, here is the ultimate list of the best diesel cannabis strains to choose from:

Sour Diesel

Sour Diesel strain bud

Sour Diesel is one of the best diesel weed strains that the West coast of the United States has to offer to the marijuana world. It is a popular and potent flower with a generous yield.

Sour Diesel is a Sativa-leaning hybrid cannabis consisting of 90% Sativa. This diesel weed is an offspring of Chemdawg and Super Skunk. You can see where it inherited its potency and diesel-like smell. Its THC level is about 19-25% but can go up to 30%.

Sour Diesel is packed with myrcene, limonene, pinene, and beta-caryophyllene. These terpenes give it a distinct gas-like aroma. Limonene, in particular, gives this diesel marijuana its pungent citrusy aroma and taste. Read the Sour Diesel strain review to learn more about this diesel cannabis.

Cherry Diesel

Cherry Diesel strain

As its name suggests, Cherry Diesel has diesel terpenes that give it its smell. It is featured on this list for its aroma. It is definitely one of the best diesel strains that come to mind when looking for one.

Cherry Diesel is a nearly balanced hybrid created by crossing Chery OG and Turbo Diesel. This cannabis strain is pungent with a cherry-centric flavor with some sweet diesel undertones. It is an equally potent marijuana strain with a THC value of 24%.

Cherry Diesel gives you the effects of both Indica and Sativa. Its high is both energizing and uplifting – exactly what you need for socializing and handling creative work at home.

Chemdawg

Chemdawg strain cannabis flower

Chemdawg or Chemdog is a potent diesel weed with a THC level ranging from 16-22%. Though its terpene profile remains a secret, you cannot talk about gassy strains without mentioning Chemdog. That is because its parental lineage says it all. Chemdog is a cross between Sour Diesel and OG Kush.

Chemdawg is slightly Indica dominant, but still treats its users with a gassy aroma. It has a strong smell of sour diesel and wet earth, and is one of the loudest-smelling strains on the planet. Its scent can be detected a mile away.

Chemdawg will greet you with a euphoric high that briefly disorients you followed by a sharpening of the mind. You may need it to take on tasks that require creativity and focus.

Death Star

Death Star strain

The diesel terpenes in Death Star are myrcene, caryophyllene, and limonene. This marijuana is a cross between Sensi Star and Sour Diesel. Its genetics explain why we have placed it among the best diesel strains.

Death Star is a very potent marijuana strain. It has a THC of about 16-22%. It is a beautiful purple flower, but there is a high pungent and gassy scent behind that appearance. Its flavor is also similar to its aroma.

Death Star hits fast and hard, relaxing your entire body in just minutes. You may opt for this strain to have a peaceful night after a long and stressful day.

Strawberry Sour Diesel

Strawberry Sour Diesel strain

As its name clearly states, this is one of the best sour weed strains you will find in the market. Strawberry Sour Diesel is also one of those strains similar to Sour Diesel, which is number one on our list.

Strawberry Sour Diesel is a cross between Sour Diesel and Strawberry Cough with a high potency fueled by 22% THC levels. It gives off intense berry and citrusy sour flavors with a fuel undertone. You can also expect a pungent combination in that complex sour diesel flavor profile.

Strawberry Sour Diesel has a motivating and energetic high typical of a Sativa-dominant hybrid like itself.

Original Glue

Gorilla Glue strain bud

Original Glue or Gorilla Glue #4 is an Indica-dominant hybrid strain resulting from a cross of Chocolate Diesel, Chems Sister, and Sour Dubb. This diesel marijuana strain is not for newbies. It is the most potent flower on this list, with a whopping THC level of about 30%.

Original Glue has a rich, chemical-diesel flavor, as well as a heavy and pungent aroma with a dank diesel undertone.

Original Glue is known for its body-melting effects, making it the best nighttime strain. The high starts with a blow straight to the head before you drop down into a state of deep physical relaxation. Choose it as your best diesel strain if you are used to a high level of mental stimulation.

Chiesel

Chiesel strain

Chiesel is a Sativa-dominant hybrid resulting from a cross between NYC Diesel and Big Buddha Cheese. The name, in itself, reveals nothing about its diesel nature, but its lineage says it all. Chiesel is one of the most potent diesel strains, with THC levels reaching as high as 28%.

Chiesel packs a sweet and nutty coffee-diesel flavor. Its aroma also has a similar description, though you can also smell herbal cheese and spicy herbs.

This diesel weed first hits your brain with euphoria that leaves you giggly and uplifted. It may be best to consider if you have planned an outing.

Chemdawg Sour Diesel

Chemdawg Sour Diesel strain

Chemdawg Sour Diesel comes in last on our list of the best diesel cannabis, but should have placed higher. It is a slightly Sativa-leaning hybrid strain, resulting in a cross between Chemdawg D and Sour Diesel with a high THC level between 18-26%.

The top reported aromas of this diesel marijuana include pungent fuel, earth, lemons, and pine. Its flavor is also not far from its scent. Chemdawg Sour Diesel tastes like chemicals and lemons.

It is energizing, relaxing, and uplifting. In fact, you get the best of Indica and Sativa in one package.

  1. I’m so glad to have found this site. Very interesting and informative, I’m just an old hippie chick from the 70’s and never really stayed up on strains and names

  2. Misinformation…
First of all Jet fuel G6 is hands down the most coveted Diesel strain, and High Country Diesel was before that, and that’s one of Jet fuel’s parents..
Second ChemDawg is absolutely not “og kush x sour diesel”. Chem was on Dead lot in the early 90s along side Albert Walker, and some other strains that absolutely blow the socks off today’s weed.
OG Kush didn’t surface until 1998 in Los Angeles..
I’m ashamed of y’all for not doing your research and selling people made up stories..
Come talk to me. I was there…

    1. Furthermore, the genetics of Chemdawg are a mystery. The only thing we’re almost sure of is Thai because of its tendency to hermaphrodite as well as other markers which closely resemble Thai…
      BUT I will say this…
There is some confusion about some things here.
OK. When you say “Kush”, do you mean “OG Kush”.?
      Or OG, or Kush.?
      Ok. Breaks down like this…
A college kid named Matt Berger aka “Bubba” accidentally created a masterpiece with these plants from clone off his mothers he’s had since Florida. Two little cuttings with wet paper towel wrapped around the base of each placed in an open bag and stuck in a Rollerblade, and driven to California. One of these clones was a pheno he’d bred from seeds he got off Dead lot, and someone’s brother said the buds looked like kush berries, so they named it Kush. Through whatever stress she or her it’s soon to be partner hermaphrodited (which is a real word only in growing cannabis I’m afraid), and without knowing he sold the bud, and one of the first people Bubba sold to was B-Real’s bodyguard. B-Real got some of it, and smoked it, and fell in love. Told the bodyguard, “Yo, you got to introduce to the dude who sold you this.” (or, you know, something like that)
So B-Real found a seed, so he took what he had found with him when he met Bubba. So they meet, and B-Real tells him; “Hey you know, I found a seed in your weed..
With those seeds they created what is known as Bubba Kush.
OG – The original, West Coast Kush was named OG for “ocean grown”. The reason why that is, is because it was grown from the landrace Afghanistan seeds smuggled back into the US (which is the source of many people’s fame by the way), except this Kush wasn’t grown in the Hindu Kush mountains; this Kush was grown in the mountains of Northern California. This is Ocean grown Kush.!
West Coast OG has a different terpene profile than “bubba’s kush”, and everything.
There’s you some knowledge to take home with you and share with the kiddos..
Ask me.. I was there.. 🤷🏼‍♂️
